Hosting an EC Sanctioned Competition

A competition sanctioned by Equestrian Canada (EC) has met a minimum set of criteria where safety, fairness and horse welfare are all prioritized. Sanctioned competitions have certified officials, appropriate levels of insurance and are governed by the Rules of EC.

• On-site support from a certified Steward/Technical Delegate
• Equine medication control testing to ensure fairness in competition and protect horse welfare
• Use of EC Certified officials
• Support and use of the Rules of EC
• Support from EC through the Competition Administration Policy in obtaining outstanding competitor fees
• Discipline, Complaints, and Appeals Policy is available in event of disputes or protests
• All participants required to carry personal liability insurance to participate
• Access to EC’s concussion protocol
• listing on EC Calendar of Events

How Do I Sanction my Competition?

Sanctioning a competition is easy! Simply submit the following:

• a competition application outlining the date, location and officials being used;
• a certificate of insurance demonstrating adequate coverage;
• a brief biosecurity assessment of the event;
• a copy of the prize list; and
• a copy of the Prize List Approval Form completed by an EC steward.

Once EC sanctioned competition applications are processed, competition organizers receive a login to the Competition Support Portal.

The EC Competition Support Portal allows organizers and officials to efficiently complete the following tasks:

• Access competition sanctioning certificate
• Pay competition invoices
• Validate that horse recordings, sport licenses, and coach statuses are valid and appropriate for the level of competition
• Download or submit forms
• Download Dressage tests
• Review lists of riders and coaches who have purchased temporary event upgrades
• Complete and submit post-competition reports
