EC HORSE RECORDINGS
A Horse Recording is a digital identification document for horses competing at EC sanctioned competitions at silver and gold levels. It can be purchased by all EC Sport Licence Holders for any horse. Please reference the current Schedule of Fees for accurate pricing for all service requests.
Horse Recordings – How To:
Current sport licence holders can submit the EC Horse Recording Application through MyEC. Horse Recordings do not require validation from a veterinarian. Upon purchase, your receipt is sent by email making your Horse Recording valid for use immediately.
Please note: A digital side view photo, in colour, of the horse will be required. The photo must be less than 4MB. The horse may wear a halter or bridle, but no other tack is permitted. A rider is not permitted.
EC Horse Recordings are subject to an annual Activation Fee. The purpose of the Activation Fee is to activate the Horse Recording for use in competition for that calendar year. This fee is paid at the time of EC Sport Licence renewal through MyEC.
The transfer of ownership can be completed and paid for through the new owners My-EC account. They will require the previous owner’s name or EC Sport Licence number. No other documents are required. Please note, this is strictly for competition purposes and is not a legal document.
An owner who wishes to change a horse’s name on an EC Horse Recording can do so through My-EC.

Registered Leases
EC Sport Licence holders who are leasing a horse that holds a Horse Recording or Passport are encouraged to register the lease with EC. Registration of the lease entitles the lessee to all competitive privileges of a horse owner, except for the right to compete in classes restricted to owners and/or amateur owners.
How to Register a Horse Lease
- Make a copy of the lease agreement or contract document, signed by both the lessor and the lessee.
- Ensure the lease agreement includes an expressed expiration date. If an expiration date has not been provided in the lease agreement, the application will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.
- Complete the EC Lease Registration Application Form.
- Submit by email to sportlicences@equestrian.ca.
Please note: Once a lease registration has been processed, the lessee will be added to the horse’s record as the main contact and will become the personal responsible for the leased horse and be subject to the EC Rules, Section A, Article A1011, Person Responsible. For full rules regarding Lease Registrations, see the EC Rules, Section A, Article A817, Registered Leases.
EC NATIONAL PASSPORT
EC National Passports are physical identification documents, recognized by the FEI, for horses competing at FEI CIM-level (1* and 2*) competitions within Canada. Please reference the current Schedule of Fees for accurate pricing for all service requests.
EC National Passports How To:
Any EC Sport Licence Holder can apply for a new EC National Passport through their My EC account.
Once your application is processed you will receive, by mail, a blank EC National Passport along with instructions for four areas to be completed by the horse owner and a veterinarian.
Once the passport has been completed, mail the EC National Passport back to the EC office for validation. EC will verify that the required information has been entered correctly, confirm payment, and then return the passport to the owner with an official EC stamp of validation.
EC National Passports are subject to an annual FEI Registration Fee. The purpose of the Registration Fee is to activate the EC National Passport for use in competition for that calendar year. This fee is paid at the time of EC Sport Licence renewal through MyEC.
Complete a duplicate document application and submit electronically through the FEI Service Portal.
When an owner buys a horse that already has an EC National Passport, a change of ownership must be validated by EC. The new owner must update the details on the Ownership Section of the National Passport and ensure that the Equine Influenza vaccinations are up to date as per FEI Regulations. Once completed, mail the passport back to the EC office and fill out the Change of owner application in the FEI Service Portal. EC will complete the change of ownership and send the EC National Passport back to the owner.
Please Note:
If a horse is purchased by multiple owners, a company, or a syndicate, only one owner is required to sign.
Should an owner wish to change the horse’s name on an EC National Passport, the new name must be validated by EC. A note with the new name must be written, dated, and signed by the horse owner. Please double-check the requested spelling of the name and ensure it is clearly written. Mail the signed note and passport back to the EC office and submit a service request in the FEI Service Portal. EC will complete the change of name and send the EC National Passport back to the owner.

To compete in CIM-level competitions internationally, or at higher-level FEI competitions within Canada, horses are required to have an FEI Passport or FEI Recognition Card. EC National Passport can be upgraded to an FEI Recognition Card. Please see FEI Recognition Card information below.
FEI RECOGNITION CARD
The FEI Recognition Card is a FEI cover and insert that is added to an EC National Passport. Once the FEI Recognition Card is added, the document has the same functionality as an FEI Passport. Please reference the current Schedule of Fees for accurate pricing for all service requests.
Due to physical document verification, some services below require documents to be mailed to our head office. Please submit tracking numbers, along with the required electronic applications to the FEI Service Portal.
FEI RECOGNITION CARD How to:
Any EC Sport Licence Holder can apply for a new FEI Recognition Card through their MY EC account.
EC Sport Licence Holders who have an existing FEI ID document for their horse (national passport or breed registration) can apply. Prior to mailing documentation, please ensure all vaccinations are updated in the passport. Mail the passport or breed registry to EC. EC will send the application to FEI for validation. Once approved, a recognition card will be created and mailed to the owner, along with the original document (EC National Passport or Breed Registry).
EC Sport Licence holders who do not have an existing FEI document must first apply for an EC National Passport through their MY EC account.
FEI Recognition cards expire every four years. To revalidate, submit a completed application, along with the scans of indicated pages found on the application, to the FEI Service Portal. One validated, EC will mail the owner a new sticker to be placed on the recognition card.
Please note: Location of the verification sticker varies based on the document originally provided. Please read the instructions carefully.
