Equestrian Canada National Team Program
The Equestrian Canada National Team Program (NTP) identifies athletes in the Train to Compete and Learn to Win stages of the Long-Term Equestrian Development (LTED) framework and supports their progression to the Train to Win and Live to Win levels. In addition, the NTP is aligned with EC’s high performance strategies and funding partners, such as Sport Canada and the Athlete Assistance Program (AAP).
The NTP – Jumping is categorized into three levels: A Squad, B Squad, and Talent ID Squad. Athletes named to the squads have access to a number of benefits to support their training and competition plans. The NTP criteria will not be used for the selection of a Major Games, Championships, or any other team or individual competition in which EC plans to send competitors.
The NTP cycle runs from January 1st to December 31st, and athlete nominations are reviewed twice per year in June and December.
AAP Criteria & Carding
Through the Athlete Assistance Program (AAP), carded and qualified equestrian athletes can have access to a monthly stipend to help support training and competition initiatives. General criteria and processes are created and implemented by Sport Canada. Sport-specific criteria for equestrian are established by the EC High Performance department.
The carding period for equestrian is from January 1 to December 31. All carding recommendations must be based on results achieved in the preceding 12 months.
Submitting Entries for FEI Competitions Outside of Canada
The entry system for FEI competitions requires that all entries for FEI competitions hosted outside of Canada are submitted by Equestrian Canada (EC).
To comply with this new requirement, EC has created an online portal to provide an efficient and streamlined process for FEI competitors to submit required FEI entry information to EC.
FEI Competition Invitations
In order to enter an FEI competition in a foreign country, Canadian teams and individuals must be invited.
FEI Entry Prerequisites
In order for an entry submission to be valid:
Withdrawing of Entries
Athletes must notify EC immediately in writing if they intend to withdraw from a competition they have entered or requested an invitation for. If the athlete withdraws after the Definite Entry date, they must also notify the competition directly. Athletes are responsible for all fees incurred due to a withdrawn entry or failure to compete.
