Arabian horses are easily recognizable with a distinctive head shape and high tail. They have refined, chiseled heads with a dished profile, large nostrils, big eyes and a long arching neck with a short, straight back. Some Arabians have fewer lumbar vertebrae and pairs of ribs than other horses. They have a deep chest, high tail carriage, strong legs and tough, hard hooves and generally range in height from 14.1 to 15.2 hands.
Small and light, Arabians are classified as horses, not ponies, even if they fall under the traditional 14.2 hand cut-off.
While they continue to excel in the disciplines of endurance and competitive trail, these horses are suitable mounts for pleasure riders in multiple disciplines. They also do well in both racing and recreational riding and they make terrific school horses on which many new equestrians learn to ride.
The objective of the CAHR is the encouragement, development and registration of the breeding of Arabian horses in Canada.
