Thousands of youth and adults lend their volunteer services at every competition around the world. While most of the volunteers come from the host country, the large number of foreigners that travel from across the globe to contribute to sporting events is really impressive.

Volunteering goes much further than working for a country or the Organizing Committee of an event – it is one of the most enriching experiences that a person who loves or has a passion for sports can have.

You will meet many people from different parts of the world, share moments and be near the best athletes from the continent, many who are considered the best in the world; and perhaps most important of all, you get to help make the noble, healthy and admirable cause of international competition a reality by organizing the Pan American Games, an event seen by millions throughout the world.

Lima 2019 Organizing Committee Looking for Volunteers: Apply by Feb. 22

Peru began its international campaign to recruit volunteers for the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games in September 2018 and will accept registrations for consideration until Feb. 22, 2019. The Organizing Committee (COPAL) expects 40,000 people to register to become volunteers. However, it is expected that there will only be 12,000 volunteers for the Pan American Games and 7,000 volunteers for the Parapan American Games.

“Volunteers are the soul of the Games, that’s why I call on all young people to live this experience, to be part of the history and register as volunteers for Lima 2019,” said Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic. “It will be a party that all Peruvians will be proud of.”

To become a volunteer, you must be over 16 years of age on April 1, 2019, with minors needing to have parental permission. Enrollments must be made through the Lima 2019 website: www.lima2019.pe/en/volunteering, where you can fill out a registration form, which is the first of five phases within the recruitment process, followed by selection, general training, assignment and specific training.

Among the benefits for volunteers is training offered in conjunction with the United Nations, certification of their participation, complete uniform, accreditation, food, liability insurance and protection, special gifts of the Games, and the opportunity to live a unique and truly unforgettable experience.
