After extensive work by the Equestrian Canada(EC)’s Eventing and Dressage/Para-dressage Operational Committees, National Rankings are launching as pilot programs in the disciplines of eventing, dressage and para-dressage starting for the show season in 2024. This national system will be regularly updated to indicate where athletes and horses appear on a national competition results leaderboard.
While national rankings have been available for hunter/jumper competition since 2021, EC is excited with the work the Eventing and Dressage/Para-dressage Committees have done to bring these three disciplines online this year.
These pilot programs aim to encourage participation in EC-sanctioned competitions in eventing (horse trials), dressage, and para-dressage as well as to highlight athletic excellence at the national level. The Committees’ work has also been particularly focused on enhancing unity in the disciplines across Canada through the creation of inclusive opportunities for national competition.

“The national rankings are part of our collective commitment to offer increased value to our community,” said EC’s CEO Meg Krueger. “It represents the continued growth in competition development and is a testament to the hard work that the Eventing and Dressage/Para-dressage Operational Committees are doing regarding athlete development pathways and the EC Rules. We are appreciative and very encouraged by the commitment that EC volunteers have made in fostering the future of eventing, dressage, and para-dressage in Canada.”
The future vision for the Eventing National Rankings includes expanding rankings to bronze level combinations, recognitions of EC Certified Coaches and Owners associated with the ranked Competitor/Horse combination, and connecting the rankings to national championships qualifications and awards.
As the rankings are running as a true pilot program, EC is interested in feedback on how the National Rankings can be improved. Those interested in providing feedback to the program can contact Eventing Committee Chair Lisa Reimer for eventing and Christine Peters for dressage and para-dressage.
