As our community prepares for the 2024 show season, EC would like to share the next step in the evolution of competitive equestrian coaching in our country.
EC values the role of coaches in our community and their engagement in coaching standards in Canada. The EC Coach Status Program verifies that equestrian coaches are trained, screened and insured. It is part of our collective commitment to skills development, excellence in instruction, and fostering safe sport principles.
We believe the standards for earning and maintaining coaching designations help protect athletes, coaches, and our industry. Whether the focus is on teaching beginners, or to coach at the highest levels of our sport, it is a foundational program that is paving the way for more coaches to achieve NCCP certification than ever before.
We appreciate that athletes, coaches, and everyone involved in competitive events this season needs to understand this year’s competitive coaching requirements. Here is an overview:
Minimum Coach Status Requirements for 2024
Here is how coach status requirements are changing for the 2024 competitive season:
Canadian residents coaching athletes at EC-sanctioned competitions must hold Licensed Coach Status. Recognizing that some coaches have not yet completed their EC Coach Status requirements, the EC Board has once again approved Temporary Coach Status for the 2024 show season.
Temporary Coach Status
Licensed Coach Status requirements will be enforced at all EC-sanctioned events.
For coaches who do not hold Licensed Coach Status, Temporary Coach Status and associated fees will be applicable as outlined in the Temporary Coach Status Fee chart here.
New for 2024: Temporary coach status must be purchased directly through My-EC, not via the competition. Temporary Coach Status is valid for one (1) EC-sanctioned event only. Coaches can purchase multiple statuses at a time if required for numerous events in the season.
Preparing for change
Coaches are strongly encouraged to continue along the pathway toward EC Licensed Coach Status. While Temporary Coach Status will enable those with insufficient EC Coach Status to coach at competitions in the short term, this option is set to be phased out at the end of 2025.

Simplifying ECampus
To assist coaches in maintaining status, automatic reminders are being sent out to notify coaches of documents that about to expire. Coaches are encouraged to review their ECampus application if they receive this notice, as there is a requirement that needs to be updated.
More than one document can be uploaded to an application to ensure there is no gap in expiration.
Pending Status
If coaches have recently applied or renewed their Coach Status, please ensure the application is completed before attending the first event of the season.
We say a great big THANK YOU to all coaches preparing for a great season ahead! For more information on the Coach Status Program please visit our website at: https://equestrian.ca/coaches-officials/coaches/coach-status-program/
