EC’s key actions this week:
- Published a return to business operations framework to provide guidance to equine farm and equestrian facility owner/operators in anticipation of the easing of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This document has been submitted to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, as well as the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, for consideration of the sector in the earliest possible phase of reopening. Please note: Based on community feedback, the document has been updated with slight wording changes related to the reopening of businesses and adjustments to the Sample Self-Declaration Form.
- Announced the cancellation of the dressage and jumping portions of the 2020 North American Youth Championships in cooperation with US Equestrian and the Federación Ecuestre Mexicana A.C. The eventing portion of NAYC has also been cancelled for 2020.
- Expressed EC’s disappointment that the May 5, 2020, federal government announcement of $252M in funding for the agri-food sector did not include desperately needed support for Canada’s working horses. Visit our COVID-19 Response page to add your voice to the call for government support.
Additionally, EC would like to note that as provinces/territories reopen, Learn to Ride programs and evaluations will be able to restart if permissible by regional and provincial health authorities.
