A little rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of Langley, BC, native, Lisa Marie Fergusson, while jogging Honor Me, her 13-year-old Welsh Sport Horse gelding sired by Brynarian Brenin, on Oct. 16.
Unwilling to compromise the tradition of eventing jog fashion, Waylon Roberts of West Grove, PA, sacrificed a rain jacket to show off his EC blazer and an excellent use of mixed patterns.
Wallaroo W (sired by Staccatto), the 11-year-old Thoroughbred/Warmblood-cross gelding owned and ridden by Bradley Champagne of Guelph, ON, knew just where to look for the camera.
The weather cleared up by cross-country day on Oct. 19, and Vermont (Van Helsing x Heraldik XX), Peter Barry’s seven-year-old Hanoverian gelding, was focused and ready to go with Canadian Olympian Colleen Loach of Dunham, QC, in the CCI 3*-L division.
Despite retiring later on, Brooke Massie of Saint-Lazare, QC, looked in fine form fitting through the corner jump flags on the CCI 4*-L course aboard her 10-year-old Thoroughbred mare, Serendipity (Vibank x Naskra).
Cross-country day always draws its fair share of onlookers!
Waylon Roberts and Lancaster (Yavari x Indorado), a 12-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding owned by Michelle and John Koppin, were the last combination to tackle the difficult CCI 4*-L course and one of only four double-clears, putting them in the lead after the after cross-country. The pair ended in an impressive eighth place on 47.10 penalties after show jumping on Oct. 20.
On Oct. 20, Bradley Champagne surveyed the CCI 3*-L show jumping course with a little help from American Olympian Boyd Martin, for whom he has worked since 2015.
EWSZ Jalando (Daimler D’Adriers x Calando) showed off his scope with Melissa Boutin of Ascot Corner, QC, in the CCI 3*-L division.
Melissa Boutin gave the 10-year-old Zweibrücker gelding a well-deserved pat after double-clear show jumping round landed them in 32nd place overall on a score of 50.70 penalties.
Colleen Loach and Vermont tore through the show jumping phase to end on their dressage score of 28.90 penalty points, securing second in the CCI 3*-L division.

What do you think Ruth Allum and EC High Performance Manager, Anna Johnson, are talking about?
Lil’ Ben, the mascot of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, stole the show at the Red & White Fundraiser, along with the hearts of EC staff.
