Ottawa, ON, Oct. 17, 2023 – Equestrian Canada and the High-Performance Advisory Group – Eventing (HPAG) would like to provide an update regarding the alternate team selections for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Due to careful consideration to the health and welfare of her Pan American Games declared horse, first alternate on the team,

Jessica Phoenix along with Freedom GS’ owner Charlotte Schickedanz have made the decision not to travel to staging camp in Ocala, Florida scheduled for Oct. 15-20. As this was a requirement for the first alternate position, this election not to attend has moved the combination to second alternate position. The decision was not taken lightly by any party involved, since these Games remain a vital time for Canadian Eventing as the last opportunity to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Freedom’s next international competition will be at the Terranova CCI4*L in Myakka City, FL, Nov. 15-19, 2023. Extensive travel prior to the event was a concern for Phoenix and Schickedanz. Given this, Dana Cooke and Quatro have moved into first alternate position and have traveled to Ocala, FL to be available to be called upon to continue to Santiago should they be required to join the team.
