Erynn Ballard of Tottenham, ON, claimed victory in the $37,000 Equine Tack and Nutritionals grand prix qualifier on April 24 at the CSI 3* ESP Spring Series III in Wellington, FL. Held on the grass derby field, Ballard was one of 55 entries to take on the track set by Olympic course designer Guilherme Jorge of Brazil. A total of 13 jumped clear and advanced to the jump-off where Ballard posted the fastest time, 34.39 seconds, riding Jack Van’t Kattenheye, a 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding (Diabeau x Canadian River) owned by Lindemann Barnett Sporthorses. Despite the fact that it was only Ballard’s fourth show with “Jack,” her blistering fast time gave her the win over Ireland’s Darragh Kenny, who stopped the timers in 34.58 seconds riding Arena UK Winston.
