Bighorn Country Proposal: AEF Advocates for Equestrians
In early fall 2018, we surveyed our members about what our priorities should be in supporting recreational riding. What we heard is that involvement in land use planning issues, such as the current Bighorn Country Proposal, is overwhelmingly important to equestrians.
Backcountry and recreational riders greatly value the ability to enjoy visits to areas like the Bighorn. Protecting the natural state of this area is highly important to equestrians from all corners of the province, as is protecting access to these areas that have been used by generations of equestrians.
When the Bighorn Country Proposal was announced, along with public information and consultation plans, we not only alerted members, but also set out to fully understand what it would mean for equestrians.

Canter Away Current Coach Spotlight – Robin Koltusky

We are proud to award the January 2019 Canter Away Current incentive to Robin Koltusky!
Robin began her journey as a professional in the equine industry by attending NAIT in 2006, majoring in Horsemanship. She continued on to work under multiple trainers in various disciplines.
Although she had found her niche in the industry training horses, the demand for horsemanship instruction at the barns she was working at became evident. She started taking on clients, helping them through problem areas and developing their horsemanship skills. This is what inspired her desire to obtain her Instructor certification through EC.
Now, she is the equitation and drill instructor for the Calgary Police Service Mounted Unit members and is responsible for selecting and training new mounts for operational patrol.
The AEF’s Canter Away Current incentive is a quarterly draw awarding an EC/NCCP instructor/coach with a $200 Greenhawk Giftcard. It was established in an effort to encourage EC/NCCP instructors/coaches in Alberta to keep current with their credentials by maintaining their first aid, background checks, memberships, and professional development.
