Nobody is more excited about summer and each upcoming competition season than all of us at Equestrian Canada. Partnered with organizers from coast-to-coast, over 400 EC sanctioned events are offered each year from bronze level shows including classes for beginners, right up to FEI levels which welcome top athletes. We want you to get a jump on the show season and lock in your 2025 Sport Licence at the current price before the year is out!
Before you Purchase/Renew: Check your Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization Status
Remember you need to renew with your home province/territory first! Sometimes it may take a few business days for your PTSO to process your renewal, please be sure to allow enough time for your PTSO renewal to clear before starting ours.
Before you Purchase/Renew: Safe Sport Training
At EC we are committed to keeping both humans and horses safe from harm. If you are 18 or over, you need to complete the two free mandatory online Safe Sport courses (Fostering Healthy Equestrian Environments and Concussion Awareness) PRIOR to purchasing your licence. These courses are FREE and valid for three years.
ALL competitive athletes, owners, coaches and officials must complete these two Safe Sport courses. Together, we can make sport safe for everyone.
Are you a First-Time Competitor, or need information on the different types of sport licences available? Check out the competition requirements from the show’s prize list, our Sport Licence Page on the EC website and the competition events page.

Due South: Are you Seeking Sunshine this Winter?
Don’t forget, Equestrian Canada has a reciprocal agreement with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF.) Current EC Sport Licence holders in good standing can create a USEF Competing Membership at no cost for the purpose of competing in USEF sanctioned competitions. You MUST complete the ANNUAL U.S. SafeSport Training provided by the U.S. Center for Safe Sport before being allowed to compete. To obtain the USEF Competing Membership please visit www.USEF.org.
Dual Sanctioned EC/USEF Competitions: You need to confirm prior to competing if your competition is dual sanctioned with EC & USEF. If so, as a Canadian you will need to obtain the competing membership from USEF (free under the reciprocal agreement as above) and complete the USEF Safe Sport courses annually. This is in addition to keeping your EC Safe Sport requirements up to date every three years. If you are unsure of the competition sanctioning, please refer to the competition prize list which will provide sanctioning details or reach out to the competition organizers directly.
National Rankings
If you are competing in National Rankings divisions for points, horse, rider, owner memberships and all sport licenses need to be current and up to date (and in good standing.) If you’re looking to collect points on a leased or foreign horse, contact us to make sure you’re set up to get points.
Registered Leases
Are you leasing a horse and competing at EC competitions? You can register the lease with us! The horse must have an EC Horse Recording in order to complete this process, whether the horse owner is active or not. For more information click here.
Planning Ahead
As of January 1, 2025, Temporary Horse Recordings will no longer be available to purchase at EC sanctioned competitions. Current sport licence holders can purchase an EC Horse Recording Application through MyEC portal. EC Horse Recordings do not require validation from a veterinarian. Upon purchase, your receipt is sent by email making your Horse Recording valid for use immediately. Click here for more information.
Mandatory Microchipping of horses competing at USEF competitions in the U.S. (not EC or dual-sanctioned shows) will come into effect December 1, 2025. If your horse does not already have a microchip, please talk to your veterinarian and get the ball rolling. Sometimes it can be difficult to obtain a microchip and we want to ensure everyone has time to get this done.
Gold and Platinum Sport Licence Holders Reminder
If you’re ‘jumping’ right into competitions in January 2025, please ensure you have your 2025 Sport Licence prior to the holiday break. Emails and phone calls will not be regularly monitored during the holiday closure from Saturday December 21, 2024 – Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Regular services will resume Thursday, January 2, 2025.
