The Winner’s Circle – June 2022

On June 3, Jacqueline Steffens of Harriston, ON, and Cat Ninja (VDL Zirocco Blue x Corland), a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Eye Candy Jumpers earned the victory in front of a crowd in the CSIO5* West Coast Cup at Thunderbird Show Park. The pair jumped double clear before earning the victory with a 46.57 over second place Bless Heers and Goodbye of the United States with a 47.25. 

Naima Moreira Laliberté

On May 13 in Camarma de Esteruelas, Spain, Naima Moreira Laliberté of Outremont, QC., and Inspire (Vitalis x Johnson TN), a nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by KML S.à r.l., earned the victory in the CDI 3* Prix St-Georges. The pair finished with a score of 70.382% over Spain native Juan Antonio Jimenez Cobo and Lanya El Coso, who finished with 69.794%.

A day later, the duo outlasted 16 athlete and horse combinations to earn a victory for the maple leaf, posting a score of 70.265% in the CDI 3* Intermediate I. 

Brooke Mancusi

On May 20, Brooke Mancusi of Chambly QC., and Wellknown (Wynton x Havidoff) earned the victory in the Young Riders Team Competition at the Ottawa Dressage Festival in Ottawa, ON. Mancusi and the 14-year-old Westphalian gelding scored 64.706% over fellow Canadian Molly Gunyon and Weltwunder, who scored 59.069%.

A day later, Mancusi and her horse earned another win in the Young Riders Individual Competition with a score of 62.745% over Gunyon and Weltwunder (59.755%).

Anna Swackhammer of Rockwood, ON., and Fabienna GV (Fackeltanz x August der Starke), a nine-year-old Westphalian mare, owned by Kristina Bennett, Melissa Sinclair and Jean Szkotnicki, earned a win in the CDIJ Junior Team Competition on May 20 at the Ottawa Dressage Festival in Ottawa, ON. The pair recorded a score of 71.111% over fellow Canadian Kiara Williams-Brown and Herdeiro Santana (63.485%).

The next two days, the duo earned ribbons in the CDIJ Junior Individual Competition with a score of 69.608% and CDIJ Junior Freestyle to Music (72.308%). 

Jody Schloss

During the Ottawa Dressage Festival from May 19-22, Jody Schloss of Toronto, ON, and Lieutenant Lobin (Lobster x Fanal Prydsholm), earned wins in all three tests of the Grade I in the CPEDI 3* Para-Dressage competition. Schloss and her own 18-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding began the weekend scoring 70.536%. On the second day, the pair scored 71.345% in the Individual test and concluded the weekend with a personal best 74.478% in the Freestyle.

In his hometown of Calgary, AB, Brian Morton and Crusador Z (Chacco-Blue x Labor’s VDL Indorado), a 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare owned by Spruce Meadows Ltd., earned the victory in the CSI 3* Grand Prix on June 12. The pair finished jumping double clear and a score of 38.74 outlasting fellow Canadian Ben Asselin and Luikan Q, who stopped the clock at 38.95.  

Eric Krawitt

On June 10, Eric Krawitt of Okotoks, AB, and Godfather B Belesbat (Numero Uno x Damiro B*HN), an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by A.E.S Equestrian Inc., captured the victory in the CSI 3* at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB. The duo stopped the clock at 62.02 over Australia’s Maddison Stephen and Yalambi’s Grazi, who finished in second place with 62.16.

Mathilde Blais Tétreault

Mathilde Blais Tétreault and Fedor (Johnson TN x Negro), a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, owned by Laurence Blais Tétreault, earned the win in the CDI 3* Grand Prix on May 20, scoring 68.609%. The Montreal, QC, native outlasted United States’ Allison Carmichael and Figaro, who scored 67.304%.

Madelaine Riddle

Madelaine Riddle of Sherwood Park, AB., and her own Cato Minor J (Cornado NRW x Royalist), a 15-year-old Westphalian gelding earned the ribbon in the CSI 2*in Langley, BC on May 26. The pair finished with 31.64, narrowly beating Mexico’s Patricio Pasquel and Alicia (31.65).

Camille Carier Bergeron

During the CDI U25 at the Ottawa Dressage Festival, Camille Carier Bergeron and Sound of Silence 4 (San Amour I x Limes), a 14-year-old Westphalian gelding owned by Gilles Bergeron, earned wins on May 20 and 21 in Ottawa, ON. In the Intermediate II, the pair scored 68.382% over Canada’s Allison Youngdale and Westwood 5 (63.725%).

A day later in the Grand Prix 16-25, the Laval, QC, native and Sound of Silence 4 finished with a 68.034%, over Youngdale and Westwood 5 (66.154%).  

Mario Deslauriers

On June 12, Fresh off competing in the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Nations’ Cup Canada, Mario Deslauriers earned a victory in the CSI 3* in Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB,. The Venise-en-Québec, QC native, and Cloud 39 (Clarimo x Quintero), an 11-year-old German Holsteiner gelding owned by Wishing Well Farm LLC., jumped double clear and finished with 48.44 over Colombia’s Juan Manuel Gallego and Fee Des Sequoias Z (48.46).

Chris Sorensen

On May 15, Chris Sorensen of Caledon, ON and Faithful Sun (Diamant de Semilly x Landjunge), a nine-year-old Holsteiner mare owned by Lulav Group LLC., earned the victory for the maple leaf in the CSI 1* in Montefalco, Italy. The pair jumped double clear and finished with a time of 36.02 over Italy’s Filippo Marco Bologni and Del Rey of the Lowlands Z (37.05).

Justin Ridgewell

On May 22 in Ottawa, ON, Justin Ridgewell and Jolene (Jazz x Fidertanz 2), an 11-year-old Oldenburg mare, owned by Braeburn Farms, captured the win in the CDI 1* Intermediate I Freestyle to Music. The native of Blue Mountains, ON, and Jolene danced their way to a score of 69.525% over Brazil’s Oswaldo Lazzuri Neto and Linden Ein (67.558%).

Tina Irwin of Stouffville, ON, and Fancy That (Donnerschweg x Frelherr), a 17-year-old Oldenburg mare owned by James Irwin, concluded the Ottawa Dressage Festival from May 19-22 with a win in the CDI 3* Freestyle to Music with a personal best score of 73.220% over fellow Canadian Mathilde Blais Tetreault and Fedor, who scored 72.420%.

Chloe Gasiorowski

Chloe Gasiorowski of Toronto, ON, and Dimacci DC (Dimaggio x Rubinstein I), a 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Susan and Tim Dutta, earned wins in the CDI 3* Intermediate A and CDI 3* Intermediate II at the Ottawa Dressage Festival from May 19-22. The pair recorded 66.882% and 67.412%, respectively, to earn the ribbons.

Yanina Woywitka

In the CDI 1* at the Ottawa Dressage Festival Yanina Woywitka of Merrickville, ON, and Hulk Hogan (Bretton Woods x Houston), a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Susanne Dutt-Roth earned wins on May 20 and 21. The pair took home the ribbon in the Prix St-Georges (68.481%) over fellow Canadian Jacqueline Brooks and Quel Filou (68.480%). A day later, outlasted Justin Ridgewell and Jolene (66.324%) in the Intermediate I, finishing with a score of 68.431%.

Liz Steacie

On May 21, Liz Steacie of Brockville, ON, and her own Bellaryn (Bonifatius x De Niro), an 11-year-old Hanoverian mare earned the win in the CDI 3* Intermediate B in Ottawa, ON, finishing with a score of 66.757%.

Elizabeth Gregory

Elizabeth Gregory of Langley, BC and Donderklap (Vivaldo x Zichem), a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood owned by Edward Divita, completed the CVI 1* individual Senior Female in Woodside, Cali., The pair finished with a final score of 6.567 over USA’s Sareen Boulgourjian and Corentin (5.671).

Laura Hall

Laura Hall of Ladysmith, BC and Istrano (Chironie x Waldemar), a Dutch Harness gelding she co-owns with Andrew Hall, earned wins in all three tests during the Grade IV CPEDI 3* at the Ottawa Dressage Festival from May 19-22. The pair began the weekend scoring 70.000% in the Team Test. A day later in the Individual test, they finished with 70.041% and concluded the weekend with 69.142% in the Freestyle test.

Sarah Cummings

Sarah Cummings of Uxbridge, ON, and L.Dorado, sired by L’Amistad 2 and owned by Janet Laraman had a successful weekend, earning three ribbons in the Grade III CPEDI 3* in the Ottawa Dressage Festival in Ottawa, ON from May 19-22. The duo scored 64.755% in the Team Test, 62.059% in the Individual Test and a 68.334% to conclude the weekend in the Freestyle Test.
