Before You Renew
✅ Renew your membership with your home province/territory first! It may take a few business days.
✅ Complete free Safe Sport Training if you are 18 years or over. Courses are valid for 3 years, so if you have recently turned 18 or if it has been more than 3 years, you will need to complete again.
✅ Once purchased, take a look around your My-EC account for any other services you may need, such as purchasing a horse recording, registering a lease, applying for officials status, updating coach status, and accessing the ECampus.
✅ If you are an amateur, remember to claim your amateur status when you renew.

Before You Compete
✅ Check you have the correct licence level for the competition you are entering.
✅ Become familiar with EC Rules – Section A has everything you need to know about basic Licence requirements for you and your horse, and check out your specific discipline rule book as well!
✅ Double check that you, the horse, and the horse’s owner (if not the rider) have all necessary memberships. Owners don’t need a membership if the horse has a Registered Lease.
✅ Do you want to earn points toward National Rankings? Ensure you have any additional memberships such as your CET Medal Membership!
✅ Riding a foreign horse but still want points? The horse will need an EC Horse Recording. Feel free to contact us for any guidance.
✅ Want to try a higher level but not sure you’re ready to commit? A single-event upgrade allows you to upgrade your licence to silver or gold for one show only, for one flat fee!

Before You Coach
✅ Make sure your Coach Status is current. If you plan to coach at EC Sanctioned shows you must have Licensed Coach Status. If you have Registered Coach Status, you must purchase a Coach Status Upgrade through MyEC in advance of each event.

After You Compete
✅ Check EC’s Results page between 10–14 days after the event to ensure your results are posted and correct.
✅ If you see any errors, submit a Results Review via your MyEC.
✅ If you receive an infraction notice – correct the licencing issue and pay the infraction. If it is not valid, submit a results review and our team will review and address any issues.

Due South: Are you Seeking Sunshine this Winter?
While all Canadian Residents must hold an EC Sport licence to take part in EC and USEF sanctioned competitions, Equestrian Canada has a reciprocal agreement with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF.) Current EC Sport Licence holders in good standing can create a USEF Competing Membership at no cost for the purpose of competing in USEF sanctioned competitions. You must complete the annual U.S. SafeSport Training provided by the U.S. Center for Safe Sport before being allowed to compete. To obtain the USEF Competing Membership please visit www.USEF.org.
Dual Sanctioned EC/USEF Competitions: You need to confirm prior to competing if your competition is dual sanctioned with EC & USEF. If so, as a Canadian you will need to obtain the competing membership from USEF (free under the reciprocal agreement as above) and complete the USEF Safe Sport courses annually. This is in addition to keeping your EC Safe Sport requirements up to date every three years. If you are unsure of the competition sanctioning, please refer to the competition prize list which will provide sanctioning details or reach out to the competition organizers directly.
Mandatory Horse Microchip Requirements with USEF – Beginning December 1, 2025, under USEF rule GR 1101.10, all horses competing in USEF licensed or endorsed competitions must be microchipped with a 15-digit ISO compliant 11784/11785 microchip. Our EC Canadian 124-000 microchips are fully compliant and available now through supplier EIDAP Inc. If your horse does not already have a microchip, please talk to your veterinarian and get the ball rolling. https://www.usef.org/compete/resources-forms/competition-management/competition-safety-biosecurity/microchipping
USEF mandates microchips must be implanted at least 12 hours from competing to not be in violation of any rules.
FOR OUR FEI COMPETITORS:
