As the leaves begin to fall, it’s time to start preparing for colder weather and shorter days. Keep this checklist handy to make sure you are organized as we head into autumn!
Horse Health
✓ Schedule all fall vaccinations.
✓ Evaluate and develop a good body condition score for each horse on the property.
✓ Prepare blankets
Equipment Check
✓ Service tractors.
✓ Check tire pressure and batteries.
✓ Properly store any equipment that won’t be used during summer months, such as mowers.
Barn Maintenance
✓ Inspect paddock fencing and barn siding.
✓ Touch up any peeling paint to protect the wood.
✓ Plan for healthy air circulation during colder months when barns stay closed more often.
Office and Record Keeping
✓ Update all health records, check that Coggins are current, etc.
✓ Organize receipts and tax documents.
✓ Order any supplies for next year such as planners, calendars, and office supplies.
