Thanks to her sport license renewal timing, Tanis Mayert will be riding her very own brand-new John Deere Z Trak mower in the fields of Manitou, Southern Manitoba this summer.
Mayert renewed by the end of 2023 and was entered to win a top of the line, zero radius mower courtesy of EC’s partner NTRA Equine Discounts.
As an owner of a Harley-Davidson, Mayert is no stranger to fast moving machines. And with the speed that it offers her in maintaining her property, she’s very grateful to be this year’s recipient. She is looking forward to having the extra help in the hopes it will give her back a bit more time to ride her five horses.
Those five include two Quarter Horses – Luke and Tuff, two Arabians – Triston and Morango, and her beloved nineteen-year-old Hanoverian Annette MHS whom she’s had since she was a foal. Even with all the work that it takes to keep up with all the chores, she knows it’s worth it. “I really enjoy having them close to me, on my own yard and barn,” said Mayert. “Not sure I would enjoy life without them.”
Like most lifelong equestrians, Mayert can’t even remember when she first started riding. “I kinda just always have. I grew up with horses, my family raised horses,” she said when asked. “I got to take my pony Tygo to a show when I was 4 or 5 years of age. That was 54 years ago!”
Today, she believes that by maintaining her memberships at the local, provincial, and national level, she can play a small part in building the future of the sport. Together with those that she assists in her community, all the way to being an EC sport licence holder, partnering with equestrians across the country can make a difference.
